Loquat leaf
Loquat leaves are evergreen with a tough,
glossy texture and a serrated edge. They can grow up to 14 inches long and 4
inches wide. Loquat leaves are physiological active and act as an
anti-inflammatory, expectorant, appetite suppressant, insulin regulator and antitussive
or cough suppressant. The leaves are fairly high in calcium, phosphorus, iron,
potassium and vitamins A and C. Eaten in quantity, loquat leaves can have a
mild sedative effect. Loquat tea, known as biwa-cha in Japan, is consumed as an
everyday tea, either hot or chilled. The leaves are dried, finely ground, added
to hot water and left to steep for at least 15 minutes.
